What this is — and what it is not

This service is for organisations that want to build a software product where AI is the core capability — not a feature added to an existing system. That might be an internal tool, a customer-facing product, a data platform, or an automation layer. What these have in common is that the value proposition depends entirely on AI working well.

This is different from our Pilot and Accelerate services, which help organisations adopt AI within existing processes and systems. Build is a software delivery engagement — we are writing production code, not advising on strategy.

What makes AI-native software different

Conventional software is deterministic: the same input produces the same output, every time. AI-native software is probabilistic — outputs vary, quality degrades with edge cases, and the system needs continuous evaluation to stay reliable. Building for this requires a different engineering discipline.

• Evaluation-first design — you cannot test AI outputs the way you test conventional logic; the evaluation framework is a first-class part of the system, not an afterthought
• Prompt engineering at scale — prompts are code; they need versioning, testing, and deployment discipline the same way application code does
• Retrieval and context architecture — most AI-native products depend on getting the right information into context; the retrieval layer is where most failures originate
• Cost and latency management — AI inference is expensive and slow relative to conventional computation; production systems require deliberate architecture to manage both
• Observability for AI behaviour — logging and monitoring for AI systems captures different signals than conventional APM; knowing when and how outputs are degrading is qualitatively different from knowing a service is down
